"I've given some thought to moving off the edge. It's not the ideal position. Maybe a place in the middle." This is a quote taken from the first scene of the second episode of Firefly. I thought this was interesting because Mal and his crew on the Serenity are hiding from the alliance by flying only on the outskirts of the universe. Why did the writer, Joss Whedon choose those exact words to say in the script? I think he was obviously trying to make a point. I think he was trying to say that although Mal and his crew were good people, they chose a life that is hard and strenuous rather than just following the crowd with everyone else.
This is evidence that Mal is more concerned about his conscience than his well being because he is willing to risk his life to stand up for what he believes in rather than just going along with everyone else. I think people like this are few and far between. Do you think you would continue on the path Mal has chosen? Or turn in Simon and his sister, River? The fact that Mal decides to protect both of them shows that he is a good person (even if he is a hot head at times).
I have anther questions for you, Would you turn in River to the government to make a HUGE profit? Or would you continue to risk your life and your crew’s lives? There are many unanswered questions and I’ll just have to continue watching to find out :)
